UPDATE: Prosecutors open case against VIM-Avia for flight delays

MOSCOW, Jun 20 (PRIME) -- Transport Prosecutor's Office of the Volga Transport District has launched an administrative case against Russian airline VIM-Avia for delays of 173 flights, the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say VIM-Avia delayed 173 flights from May 28 through June 12, including 52 scheduled flights and 121 charter flights, due to a late arrival of planes, technical malfunctions of scheduled aircraft, and the lack of the necessary amount of backup planes.

A VIM-Avia representative told PRIME that all flights are going on according to the schedule.

Oleg Safonov, head of the Federal Tourism Agency, said that there are now almost no flight delays, and even if there are some they are small.

“The joint work with the Federal Air Transport Agency helped us ease the situation with VIM-Avia and adjust the flight schedule. Today, the charger flight schedule has been significantly reduced, we now understand the number of flights that may be fulfilled in accordance with strict transportation regulations,” Safonov said.
